Make the Most of Your Home - Invest in Your Kitchen

Whether you are contemplating selling your house in the near future or staying in it for the rest of your life, your kitchen is one of the best places to make an investment. Not only is the kitchen typically the heart of your home, it is also one of the most important selling features. Updating a kitchen with new design can make a house more attractive to potential buyers, newer appliances use less energy, and improving the layout can help you work more efficiently in your kitchen.

"The current economy presents some real challenges for home owners," says Rich Kuehster, owner of Columbine Kitchen and Bath. He has been creating beautiful kitchens in the Douglas/El Paso County, Colorado area for over 30 years. "Because houses aren't selling, those who have outgrown their current kitchen are looking at remodeling. Our designers are great at helping homeowners find ways to use the space in their homes to vastly improve not only the look of the kitchen, but the way it functions. We have a full staff who will provide our clients with innovative and exciting kitchen designs."

Esther Premer, an interior designer with Columbine Kitchen and Bath agrees, "There are many new products and features on the market today. Cabinet makers become more innovative all the time. They continually work to make storage space more convenient and functional. From making corner cabinets more accessible to pull-out combination waste and recycle baskets, we can find ways to make your kitchen more functional and efficient. When we work with you to create a new kitchen design, we do all we can to make the best use of the space available."

The countertop market has expanded dramatically. Nancy Woodka, one of Columbine's other designers, says, "If you haven't shopped for countertop products lately, you should stop in. The composite market has expanded dramatically and the products have become much more affordable than they used to be."

When you consider a kitchen remodel, do your homework. Don't invest more than the value of your house and your neighborhood warrants. If you are not sure how much you should invest in your kitchen, do the research. Be sure you know how much your house is worth as it is and how much you owe on it. Find out what houses in your neighborhood are selling for. When you start planning your kitchen remodel, balance that value with the investment you are making. Industry experts advise that a kitchen budget should break down to 40% for cabinets, 20% for appliances, 15% for counters, 10% for floors and 15% for other items. In every design, of course, there are ways to trade off on the parts and pieces to achieve the look and functionality a customer desires. The Columbine staff will be happy to meet with you to measure, choose products, create a new kitchen design and provide you with an estimate to help you stay within your budget.
